Lakenheath routs Vilseck to secure spot in semis
RAF LAKENHEATH, England -- The Lakenheath Lancers clinched a spot in the DODEA-Europe Division I football semifinals Saturday with an emphatic 45-3 rout of the visiting Vilseck Falcons.
The win improves the Lancers to 3-1 in conference play entering their regular-season finale next weekend at Wiesbaden, guaranteeing a winning divisional record and a finish at least ahead of Wiesbaden and Vilseck in the six-team race for the division’s four semifinal berths. A win against Wiesbaden will secure a home semifinal game for the Lancers.
Winless Vilseck was eliminated from playoff contention with the loss, a disappointing blowout after respectable recent efforts against Ramstein and Kaiserslautern.
Ion Duenas rushed 13 times for 220 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Lancers on Saturday, while quarterback Maurice Thomas passed for 150 yards and a touchdown to wideout Cam Franklin. Joey Glenk led the victors with 14 tackles, while Franklin and Shayne Brooks each nabbed an interception.
