RAF LAKENHEATH, England -- The host Lakenheath Lancers recorded an impressive DODEA-Europe Division I football victory Saturday, handling the visiting Wiesbaden Warriors 48-27 in both teams’ non-conference season opener.

Lakenheath ultimately enjoyed the edge in firepower in a battle of two potent offenses.

Ion Duenas totaled 188 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries to lead the Lancers, while fellow running back Manny Cordero rushed 16 times for 151 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Maurice Thomas completed 16 of 20 attempts for 149 yards and three touchdowns, including two to Cam Franklin and another to Dalton Harriett.

Wiesbaden countered with its own pair of productive running backs. Sean Patton carried 17 times for 88 yards and a touchdown and Keyon Allen ran 14 times for 85 yards and a touchdown. The Warrior air attack also yielded points as Josh Blake tossed a 28-yard touchdown to Garrett Armel and Sam Houston found Ben Tyler for a 22-yard touchdown.

Saturday’s game didn’t count towards playoff qualification. The more consequential games start next week as Lakenheath visits Kaiserslautern and Wiesbaden travels to Vilseck.
