KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany – Kaiserslautern’s boys and girls opened their Region II campaigns with 2-0 records by downing Mannheim on the road Tuesday and here on Friday night.Kaiserslautern All-European Cariema Wood posted a triple-double – 15 points, 14 steals and 10 rebounds – in Friday’s 38-22 victory that kept the Lady Raiders unbeaten at 6-0 overall.Wood posted eight points, eight steals and four rebounds in Tuesday’s 39-18 triumph.Tuesday, Wood’s teammate Medina Gregory took game-scoring honors with 10 points; Gretchen Crockett led Mannheim with 8 points.Friday, Infinity Baiseden topped the Mannheim score sheet with eight points.Mannheim’s boys added the experience of playing big-school, big-boy basketball to the school’s final hoops season of all time, falling to the Red Raiders, 52-48, at Mannheim on Wednesday and 71-56 at Kaiserslautern on Friday.Wednesday, Mannheim trailed by 17 points going into the final period, then outscored their guests’ reserves, 23-10, the rest of the way. Three Bison – Aaron Clarke, Sam Rosario and Adam Cornelius – achieved double-figures with 12, 11 and 10 points, respectively. Brandon Wiley pulled down 16 rebounds for Mannheim on Wednesday. Friday, Thomas Russ (18 points, 15 rebounds) and Bernard Burwell (17 points, 23 rebounds) hammered the boards and the Bison in a game which saw K-town break way from a 33-33 halftime tie. Derryk Scarvers added 15 points and nine assists to the victory which upped K-town’s season record to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in Region II. K-town’s lone loss was an 89-70 defeat by visiting Heielberg on Dec. 3.Mannheim (2-6, 2-2) got a team-high 21 points and 17 rebounds from Wiley on Friday.Next up for K-town are Friday night boys’ and girls’ games against visiting Baumholder.
