While their contemporaries on the soccer pitch played their final pre-tournament matches, DODEA-Europe’s baseball and softball teams proceeded through the penultimate weekend of their own regular-season schedules. The European diamond tournaments are set for May 24-26 in the Kaiserslautern Military Community.

BaseballRaiders roll through Italy: At Vicenza, Kaiserslautern made good on its anticipated trip south with an undefeated four-game showing.

The Raiders routed the host Vicenza Cougars 19-3 on Friday and 15-0 on Saturday, and handled Naples 12-1 on Friday and 3-0 on Saturday.

Naples salvaged a split on the weekend with 21-9 and 17-16 wins over Vicenza.

The 4-0 outing follows two weekends of doubleheader splits for the Raiders. Kaiserslautern halved with Lakenheath on April 28 and Stuttgart on May 4.

Lakenheath 8/10, Ramstein 2/4: Saturday at Lakenheath, the host Lancers recorded an impressive sweep of the defending champion Royals.

Jaxon Tomchesson shut down Ramstein in the opener, allowing just four hits across four innings, and provided a spark of offense with two hits, a run and an RBI. Jordan Harris had two hits, two runs and two RBI for the Lancers.

Lancer pitcher Caleb McIntosh threw five solid innings in the late game to deliver the sweep. He too helped his own cause at the plate, notching a pair of hits, scoring twice and driving in a run. Lakenheath looks to carry its momentum into a season-ending showdown with regional and divisional rival SHAPE next weekend.

SHAPE 6/3, Stuttgart 4/10: Saturday at Mons, Belgium, the Spartans and Panthers played to a doubleheader draw.

SHAPE’s Jarod Gallegos went the distance for a complete-game pitching victory in the opener, scattering four hits and an earned run across six innings while striking out eight.

Dillon Brewer went 2-for-2 in each game and drove in three total runs to pace the Spartans offensively. Sigonella 9/10, Rota 0/1: At Sigonella, the Jaguars dispatched a Division II/III opponent.

Mason Carter struck out 13 in the opener and Alex Ogletree struck out 10 in the nightcap as Sigonella put its overwhelming pitching staff on display. Ogletree totaled four hits and five RBI, while Andrew Taylor drove in a run in each game for the Jaguars.

Vilseck handles Hohenfels: The Falcons went wire-to-wire over two dominant days on the diamond, handing the Tigers two losses at each location.

Vilseck won 11-1 and 13-4 on Friday at Hohenfels, then won 19-5 and 11-1 on home turf Saturday. Jordan Leighty struck out 10 in five scoreless innings and launched a home run in Friday’s opener; the next day, Leighty drove in seven runs.

SoftballSigonella, Vilseck take control: The Sigonella Jaguars and Vilseck Falcons controlled their respective weekend slates.

The Jaguars beat Alconbury 22-0 and Rota 13-0 on Friday. Hannah Zarum threw a no-hitter against the Dragons while Jessica Jacobs tossed a one-hitter and secured two hits of her own against Rota. Vilseck put up double-digit runs in all four of its games against Hohenfels on the weekend, including 13-7 and 16-8 road wins Friday and 14-3 and 20-4 home wins Saturday.

Kayla Silden totaled five hits, four RBI and three runs to pace the Falcons on Friday. Cooper Lazo produced four hits, six RBI and four runs on Saturday.
