ANSBACH, Germany – Xavier Jones rushed for 341 yards and three touchdowns Friday night to lead the unbeaten Ansbach Cougars to a 60-16 Division II-South victory over the Hohenfels Tigers.Jones, who carried the ball 24 times, added a fourth TD to the Cougars’ cause on a 60-yard pass-interception return.Hohenfels (0-3 overall and in II-South) made things close in the second period, when Lamar Benjamin broke a 70-yard TD run and Xavier Davis – who finished the game with a total of 173rushing, receiving and return yards – scampered into the end zone from 15 yards out. At intermission, Ansbach led just 28-16.But Jones’ legs and the arm of junior quarterback Jake Voohees, who finished the game seven-of-12 for 183 yards, along with a stiff Cougars’ defense, allowed Ansbach to pull away in the second half.Linebacker Xavier Cage, who was in on 14 stops, made eight of them by himself, including three behind the line of scrimmage. Raheem Beatty collected two sacks among his six stops for Ansbach (3-0, 3-0).The Cougars, who increased their scoring average to 52 points per game, next are scheduled to host Naples on Oct. 8 in a showdown for the II-South title. Hohenfels is scheduled to visit Schweinfurt the same day.
