BITBURG, Germany – It was certainly the least dominant win of the 2013 Bitburg football season, but it counts just the same. Larry Jackson pushed through two 1-yard touchdown runs in the first half and a stout Baron defense blanked the Spartans in a 16-0 win Saturday. Jackson finished with 180 yards on 32 carries and added a two-point conversion pass reception from Dom Ferneding to his scoring total. Ferneding found Ian Alexander for the team’s other two-point play. Conner Manning managed 54 yards on 10 rushes for the Spartans, while Eimad Ismail carried five times for 20 yards. But the Bitburg defense circled SHAPE throughout. Justin Martel and Curtiss Wilson each had 5 tackles and a sack for the Barons. John Blake led the team with seven tackles, followed by two-way hero Jackson with six. The SHAPE defense, meanwhile, performed admirably against an offense that hadn’t scored less than 42 points all season. Kristjan Lozar led the way with 11 solo tackles and seven assists while causing a fumble, recovering a fumble and adding a quarterback sack. Taylor Ator and Clay Coon each had 12 solo tackles and 10 assists for the Spartans. Bitburg wraps up its regular season at 5-0, with a DODDS bye week between it and the quest for a fifth straight Division II title.
