ANSBACH, Germany – Heidelberg sophomore Lexi Tavarez allowed three first-inning hits Saturday, then no-it the Ansbach Lady Cougars the rest of the way en route to 10-5 victory in the second game of a season-opening Region III softball doubleheader.Tavarez’s effort allowed the Lady Lions, a Division I school, to salvage a split of their season-opening doubleheader against their D-II hosts. Earlier, according to Ansbach coach Danel MacWhite, Isti Istrefi three-hit Heidelberg, striking out six in Ansbach’s 9-5 victory.Katie Schuh’s two-out, two-run single in the third inning of the opener capped a four-run rally that put Ansbach ahead for good.Next up for Ansbach is a Saturday doubleheader at D-I contender Patch. Heidelberg is scheduled for a Saturday doubleheader at undefeated Vilseck.
