FootballRamstein at Wiesbaden Friday The Ramstein Royals missed the Division I championship game last year, and the Wiesbaden Warriors lost in it for the second straight season. But this matchup remains the marquee rivalry on the DODEA-Europe gridiron. Wiesbaden defeated Ramstein in the 2013 European championship game; Ramstein returned the favor the following season. The two appeared headed for a rubber match last fall until upstart Stuttgart eliminated both in the course of an unexpected championship run. The title-game series could resume in 2016. Both teams registered solid wins in their conference openers last weekend, with the Warriors handling Kaiserslautern 26-7 and the Royals outlasting Vilseck 18-3. Like last year, however, the remainder of the 2016 season could produce some unpredictable phenomena such as Stuttgart’s spirited playoff run. One such wild card is Lakenheath, which gave Wiesbaden a worthy challenge in a 2015 semifinal loss, knocked off the Warriors in this fall’s non-conference opener and defeated the reigning champion Panthers last weekend to start conference play. The Lancers will look to add to their momentum against Vilseck this weekend before visiting both Ramstein and Wiesbaden over the season’s last three weeks.
