The DODEA Administrative Instruction for Student Rights and Responsibilities, under the subsection “Patriotic Exercise,” sets the following policies. Students shall: (a) Have a daily opportunity to participate in patriotic exercises…However, they may not be compelled to participate if they or their parents object, and may decline to do so. (b) Not be disciplined or stigmatized for participating or abstaining from participating in patriotic exercises, but may be disciplined for conduct that disrupts or interferes (with) school activities or the educational environment. (c) Respect and not interfere with the rights of others who wish to participate in patriotic exercises. (d) Respect the customs and flags of all nations.
