STEEREBEEK, Belgium – Dakota Deverill and Zach Jackson ran for touchdowns Saturday to lead the Brussels Brigands to a 16-6 victory over the Brussels Bulls, a Belgian club team. It was the Brigands’ first on-field victory since the 2007 season.According to Brigands’ coach Tim Mobley, Deverill went over from 6 yards out in the first quarter to cap a 54-yard drive and give the Brigands a 6-0 lead which they expanded to 8-0 on a safety registered when the Bulls snapped the ball out of the end zone on a punt try.The Brigands recovered an onside kick to open the second half, Mobley reported. Their drive, however, stalled on the Bulls’ 29, and the Belgians struck for a 71-yard TD run to cut their deficit to 8-6. But Jackson, who would end the game with 123 yards rushing, answered with a 45-yard TD run before the end of the stanza, and then caught Hayden Pfefferkorn’s two-point conversion pass for the final margin.Deverill also rushed for 123 yards in the game, which saw the Brigands hold on fourth down twice over the final 12 minutes. Deverill and Vincent Alonso led the defensive charge with 13 and seven tackles, respectively.Combined with the forfeit it received earlier from Sigonella, Saturday’s originally scheduled opponent which suspended its program in late September, the Brigands closed their season on a two-game win streak. They wound up 2-5 overall, 1-4 in Division III.
