BITBURG, Germany – Thirty-one down, one to go. The Bitburg Barons tied the DODDS-Europe record for most consecutive football wins Saturday by blitzing Alconbury 66-14, setting up a shot at an outright record next weekend against Baumholder. Kenny Love and Larry Jackson combined for 305 yards rushing and five touchdowns for the Barons, who opened the season hoping to win their fifth straight Division II title. Alconbury, moving up this year to Division II from nine-man Division III, saw Bitburg score the first eight touchdowns of the game before getting on the scoreboard. Sophomore quarterback Fritz Sherenco connected with Soloman Dana on a 45-yard touchdown pass and Kevin Beasley scored on a 40-yard run for the Dragons’ two touchdowns. Love opened the scoring with a 58-yard run and added a 34-yard run later in the opening quarter. By then, teammates Ian Alexander (34 yards), Devin Billups (2 yards) and Jackson (3 yards) had also scored. Jackson added 3- and 10-yard runs in the second and third periods. James Cortez (40 yards) and Antwan Hardin (43 yards) had fourth-quarter runs to complete the scoring. Alconbury totaled 257 yards of offense, including three receptions for 116 yards by Dana, a junior. Sophomore Wesley Redcliff and senior Kevin Beasley combined for 107 yards on the ground. Dana was credited with 12 tackles on defense and sophomore Jacob Williamson eight. For Bitburg, Love had 171 yards and Jackson 134. Alexander had seven tackles and three interceptions on defense, with Jaylon Gray and John Blake each getting six tackles. The Barons host Baumholder on Saturday and will try to break the tie atop the record book they now hold with Ansbach. Alconbury hosts AFNORTH on Sept. 21.
