MONS, Belgium – D’Vonte Dawson rushed for three touchdowns and passed for another Saturday as the Baumholder Bucs downed the SHAPE Spartans 42-14 in the Division II-North opener for both teams.Dawson rushed for 153 yards and tossed a six-yard touchdown pass for Baumholder, which responded to an early 6-0 deficit by putting up 36 unanswered points. The Bucs led 24-6 at the half, according to Baumholder assistant Erik Majorwitz.Dawson’s TD pass gave him the team TD-production edge over sophomore quarterback Christian Kubas, who completed eight-of-10 passes for 209 yards and three TDs. Ben McDaniels, who pulled in four passes which accounted for 137 yards, caught two TD passes, and Isaac Giefer and Breon Herbert each snared one. Giefer had 43 yards in receptions; Herbert 30 yards. As they did in Baumholder’s non-conference 41-6 victory over AFNORTH on Sept. 9, the Bucs’ defenders came up with key turnovers when the opposition threatened. According to Majorwitz, a pass interception by Christian Rosado and a fumble recovery by Jon Laderas each stopped a deep SHAPE drive.Dasante Browne was in on 15 tackles, seven of them solos, for Baumholder, which will enjoy a bye-week this weekend. Nobleman Soule and Michael Graves were credited with being in on 12 and 10 tackles, respectively. No information about SHAPE’s accomplishments was available at presstime Saturday. The Spartans are next ticketed for a Saturday game at Bitburg.
