BAMBERG, Germany – Bamberg and Ansbach each claimed a Region III victory here on Friday night. Bamberg’s unbeaten boys drilled the Ansbach Cougars, 60-37, and Ansbach’s Lady Cougars turned back the winless Bamberg Lady Barons, 29-26.Quadell Webb struck for 23 points for Bamberg, which raised its Region III mark to 3-0. Ansbach (1-4, 0-3 in the region), which got a team-high 19 points from Xavier Jones, led 27-26 at halftime, but managed just 10 total points after intermission.In the girls’ game, Ansbach’s Lauren Finley and Bamberg’s Keaton Poppe tied for game-scoring honors with 14 each. The Lady Cougars (4-1 overall, 2-1 in regional play) withstood an 8-5 fourth-quarter run by the defending European Division II champs to hang on for the victory.Diandra Quashie pulled down a game-high 16 rebounds for Bamberg, but the Lady Barons saw their regional record drop to 0-3 in spite of Quashie’s hard work and 15 rebounds by Natasha Godbee and 10 by Poppe.Next up for Ansbach are Region III games Friday in Stuttgart against Patch and at home Saturday against the same Patch teams.
