RAF ALCONBURY, England – Schuyler Backlar ran for two touchdowns and passed for another Saturday as the Menwith Hill Mustangs downed the Alconbury Dragons 34-8 in a Division III nine-man football game.The victory earned the Mustangs the No. 3 seed in this weekend’s European Division III semifinals. They’ll travel to Germany on Saturday to play the No. 2 Bamberg Barons for the right to advance to the European D-III title game Nov. 5 in Baumholder. The D-III finalists will have a bye week on Oct. 29.Damon Morris and Ryan Reers each ran for TDs for Menwith Hill (4-2 overall, 3-2 in D-III play), according to Menwith Hill coach Pete Resnick. Ben Milam hauled in Backlar’s TD toss, a 4-yarder.Alconbury (2-4, 2-3) is scheduled to travel to unbeaten Rota this weekend for the other D-II semi. Rota, which routed visiting Bamberg 62-7 on Saturday in a game for which details were not immediately available, pinned a 74-0 defeat on Alconbury two weeks ago.
