VICENZA, Italy – Xavier Jones rushed for 185 yards and two touchdowns Saturday as the Ansbach Cougars battered the Vicenza Cougars 48-6 in the Division II-South season-opener for each team.DeMar Flake also broke the 100-yard rushing barrier for Ansbach, which allowed 106 yards in kickoff returns to Vicenza’s Anthony Pleasant, but little else. Flake rushed 12 times for 117 yards and a touchdown, and Ansbach quarterback Mikael Vicente found Derrick Flake with an 81-yard TD pass among his three completions on the day which netted 121 yards. Vicente threw the ball eight times.Ansbach, which led 28-6 at halftime, benefited from 7.5 tackles by Matt Phipps and six stops by Josh Pleake, according to Vicenza coach Adam Ridgley. Xavier Cage, who was credited with 4.5 tackles, recovered two fumbles and deflected a pass for Ansbach, which next is scheduled to play at Schweinfurt on Saturday.Vicenza is to visit Naples on Saturday.
