The Alconbury Dragons will take a shot at a sweep Saturday.

Both Alconbury soccer squads qualified for the DODEA-Europe Division III championship games on Friday as round-robin tournament play concluded at Landstuhl, Germany. The defending champion Alconbury girls will face Sigonella, while the boys will take on regional rival Brussels.

Sigonella was the only team to defeat Alconbury in round-robin play, edging the Dragons 5-4 in both team's tournament opener Wednesday. The Jaguars also won their remaining four qualifying games, including matching 5-0 routs over Ankara and Brussels on Friday.

Alconbury was equally dominant after that early loss, posting shutout victories in all four of its subsequent round-robin matches.

The boys title game is a rematch of one of the most hard-fought games of the preliminary rounds. Alconbury beat Brussels in a 7-6 shootout after playing to an action-packed 3-3 regulation tie. Adding to the intrigue is the fact of Brussels' 2-1 win over Alconbury in the regular season, a game that was the Dragons' only loss to a non-Division I opponent.

The Alconbury-Brussels boys title game features two different teams from last year's version, in which Florence, since promoted to Division II, defeated Sigonella.

Baumholder will play Brussels in the girls third-place game, while Ansbach and Sigonella will play for third among the boys.
