RAF MILDENHALL, England – Stuttgart had a busy Saturday in England as the boys and girls volleyball teams both proved to be too much for host Lakenheath and Vilseck.

The Panther boys, who won half the European title in their official DODEA-Europe debut, defeated Vilseck 25-19, 25-18, 19-25, 25-22.

The Falcons didn’t go down easily, battling to win the third set and pushing Stuttgart in the final one.

Stuttgart followed that with a 25-19, 25-18, 25-20 victory over the Lancers.

Panthers coach Nicole Andre said her team is turning hard work into results.

“They played on some German teams and went to camps over the summer,” she said.

She credited communication as a key factor into the team’s success.

“It’s making sure that the six people on the court are communicating properly and getting themselves out of situations if they fault short,” Andre said. “It can also involve seeing who is having the best day in the best area (and feeding them).”

Meanwhile at RAF Lakenheath, the Panthers girls also claimed victories, though both matches went the full five sets.

Stuttgart topped Vilseck 25-16, 25-21, 22-25, 15-25, 15-6.

The team’s final match of the day was just as close. Stuttgart’s defense proved the difference in a 17-25, 25-15, 18-25, 25-23, 15-9 win over Lakenheath.

It’s the last time the Panther girls, one of two unbeaten Division I teams along with Ramstein, are set to play against either Lakenheath or Vilseck until the season-ending championships at the end of October. Lakenheath and Vilseck will meet again Oct. 17 in Wiesbaden.
