Last week - Edgar, a 6-0, 170-pound sophomore running back, carried the ball 16 times for 226 yards and three touchdowns Saturday to help the Barons close out their regular season 5-0 with a 54-12 victory over visiting Baumholder.
Edgar, whose longest gain was 49 yards and whose longest TD run covered 24 yards, accumulated his total on blasts up the middle and sweeps, according to Bitburg coach Mike Laue.
“Kyle has good speed and is deceptively strong,” Laue wrote Tuesday in an e-mail. “He also knows how to use his blockers well.”
Making the blocks Edgar exploited, Laue added, were Adam Smith, Darian Billups, Pat Less, Zach Nichols, Gary Horn, Shaquille Williams, and backs Aaron Mayfield and Austin Schmidt.
“They all work as a unit to make sure that the opportunities for our backs are there,” Laue wrote.
Next up for the defending European D-II champion Barons is a quarterfinal playoff game Saturday against Hohenfels.

Last week - Juliano, a returning All-European, reveled in her team’s new formation Saturday by handing out 23 assists as the Lady Cougars downed the visiting Sigonella Lady Jaguars, 25-15, 25-16, 25-13.
“We changed our offense from a 6-2 to a 5-1 this week with Milan as our lone setter, and she stepped up with 23 assists, setting 56 balls with only one error,” Vicenza coach Chance Wilson wrote in a weekend e-mail.
The performance, which came after Wilson decided to end his season-long tinkering with the 6-2, more than justified the coach’s decision.
“She has patiently waited while we have experimented with our lineup,” he continued, “and now we’ve gone back to what she has done for the last five years.
Wilson indicated he wasn’t surprised by the patience or performance by senior standout.
“She’s a devoted team player,” he concluded, “with strong character and firm values.”
