Bamberg High School

Last week: Dominick, a sophomore midfielder who moved to Bamberg from Belfast, Northern Ireland, as a freshman, scored four goals Saturday in Bamberg’s 7-0 victory at Ansbach. According to Bamberg coach Wade Krauchi, Dominick’s transition from Northern Ireland to Bamberg was smoothed by his fondness for that American delicacy, the corn dog, along with his love of soccer. As a freshman, Dominick scored 16 times en route to being selected to the Division III-South all-conference and Division III all-tournament teams. Saturday’s goals gave Dominick 13 for the season. He also assisted on two other Bamberg scores to raise his season total in that category to eight. “He is one of the playmakers on the team,” Krauchi wrote in an e-mail to Stars and Stripes. Dominick’s scoring outburst Saturday helped the Barons finish their regular season with a 2-4 record. They are participating in Division IV in this week’s European tournament.

Naples High School

Last week: Anderson, a senior midfielder in her second year at Naples, handed out two assists Saturday as the Wildcats completed their run to the American Schools in Italy League championship with a 5-0 home victory over the American Overseas School of Rome. Combined with the Wildcats’ clutch 4-3 road win at previously unbeaten Marymount International School of Rome, in which Anderson scored two goals and assisted on a third, Saturday’s win gave Naples a tiebreaker conference championship over Aviano and Marymount. All three teams finished league play 4-1-1. Anderson, who transferred to Naples from London Central as a junior, “has played a strong midfield for us this year,” Naples coach Ron Ginter wrote Monday in an e-mail. Ginter pointed out that Anderson’s play complemented the work of her teammates. Five different Wildcats scored against AOSR, illustrating the team concept the Wildcats are taking to this week’s European Division II soccer tournament.
