Ramstein

Last week: Weaver, a senior guard, scored 19 points Friday and 21 Saturday as the Royals (1-1) swept the International School of Brussels, 57-41 and 70-30.

“Allen played really well offensively and defensively,” Ramstein coach Len Tarnowski said in an e-mail. “He not only shot the shots that he should have, but tried to find teammates on offense. Defensively, he always takes the other team’s best player.”

Tarnowski also praised the continuing development of Weaver, an All-Europe choice as a junior who began his career as a freshman on the Lakenheath varsity. “This year as a senior he has really worked hard defensively and understands that there is passing, shooting, moving without the ball and reading on offense,” Tarnowski wrote.

Giessen

Last week: Darby, a sophomore guard shut down by Hohenfels the previous weekend, scored a combined 60 points Friday and Saturday in a split against visiting Alconbury.

Friday, Darby scored 31 points, more then half of them off fast breaks, according to Giessen athletic director Ron Merriwether. She posted a triple double with 11 rebounds and 10 steals, but Alconbury prevailed 53-49.

On Saturday, Darby had 29 points, nine rebounds and nine assists before fouling out in the fourth period as Giessen claimed an 60-59 overtime win.

“I personally feel good about Elisha and what she has done,” Merriwether wrote in an e-mail. He added: “It is often hard for a young athlete to understand their role on a team and the attention they do get when they are the focal point of the team.”
