BITBURG, Germany - Bitburg, the only unbeaten team left in Division II DODDS-Europe football made certain it would stay that way Saturday by walloping the Naples Wildcats, 61-9, in a Division II semifinal game.
Next stop for the Barons is the Super Six championships in Baumholder, where they will defend their D-II title against Mannheim.
Bitburg (7-0) took a 20-0 first-quarter lead on rushing TDs by Corey Bason, Austin Schmidt and Kyle Edgar and added two more TD runs by Schmidt in the second quarter to go up 34-3 at halftime.
The Barons kept up the onslaught after halftime, breaking Corey Evans loose for two TDs and Austin Evans and Aaron Mayfield for one each.
Naples, which finished its season 4-3, got on the board with Hunter Johnson’s 37-yard field goal in the second quarter and Kyle Smigelski’s 1-yard plunge in the fourth.
