In a season hit hard by cancellations and budget cuts, defending European Division III champion Baumholder and Italy champion Aviano calmly keep playing through the distractions.

Both improved to 6-0 Saturday with conference victories.

Aviano sweeps Marymount

Aviano’s nucleus of Shaunta Daniel, Jameieka Price and Kristen Barnhill led the Saints to easy victories.

Daniel, a senior, had 21 points, 14 rebounds and 10 steals in Friday night’s 55-25 romp. She followed Saturday with 10 points and 12 rebounds in Aviano’s 46-17 victory.

Price had 16 points on Friday, and 14 points, 12 steals and eight rebounds on Saturday to supplement Barnhill’s 15 points.

Baumholder takes South lead

Two-time All-Europe pivot Katie Feterl had 12 rebounds in each game against Bamberg and five steals in Saturday’s 36-30 victory as the Lady Bucs rode defense and balanced scoring to the III-South conference lead.

Baumholder won 39-31 on Friday.

Tiffany McNeil, who led Baumholder in scoring both games with nine points in each, matched Feterl with 12 rebounds and five steals on Saturday.

Livorno wins two straight

The Lions, behind the scoring of Ashleigh Fowler, turned back visiting Milan 17-14 and 21-15 for its first two-game winning streak in more than two years.

Fowler scored 20 points in both victories for Livorno, which is 2-4 in Italy play.
