RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany — Collins Wonzina scored both goals Friday as Bamberg defeated Brussels 2-0 in the third-place game of the European Division III boys soccer tournament.

Wonzina’s first-half strikes, added to the goal he scored in Friday morning’s 5-4 semifinal loss to defending champion American Overseas School of Rome, gave him five in the Barons’ five tournament games.

Third place wasn’t much consolation for Bamberg, which was forced to play its semifinal on one of the smaller fields at Kapaun Air Station in Kaiserslautern.

“We would have beaten them on a regulation field,” Bamberg coach Wade Krauchi said. “The small field took away our advantage in speed.”

Even so, Bamberg nearly climbed out of a 4-1 hole against the defending champions on goals by Nik Krauchi, Wonzina and Tommy and Danny Spindler.

“I’m very proud of this team,” the elder Krauchi said.

AOSR advanced to Friday evening’s Division III title game against Naples, which edged Brussels 2-1 in the semifinal on the other small field at Kapaun.
