YOKOSUKA NAVAL BASE, Japan — Johnell Alexander continues to rewrite Robert D. Edgren’s record book, and the Eagles keep winning.

The senior speedster ran for 100 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries and caught two TD passes as Edgren (5-2) won its third straight game 19-6 on Friday over Nile C. Kinnick (1-6) at Yokosuka’s Berkey Field.

Alexander pulled within three of passing the 14 combined TDs scored by Edgren’s "Fantastic Four" of last season, Zach Latimore, Jacque Moton, Andrew Blankenship and Josh McDonald.

"I feel like they set the bar pretty high," Alexander said after running his school-record yardage haul to 895 on 121 carries. "It’s a challenge for me to go get it, and with the team I have, I think I can do it."

He has one more regular-season game, the DODDS-Japan Football League season finale on Friday at home against Yokota, then the Nov. 1 Far East Class A championship against Daegu or Osan American, also at Eagles Field.

Alexander roundly credits his linemen and emerging quarterback Zach Davis for his and the team’s success.

"It all starts with them," Alexander said of the line. "Without them, the ball doesn’t move. And Zach made some good deep throws that I could get to."

Alexander scored on an 8-yard run and caught touchdown passes of 30 and 40 yards from Davis, who went 3-for-6 for 90 yards. Davis stepped in for season-opening starter Drew Holder, who has focused more on defense during Edgren’s three-game win streak.

"Zach has been doing excellent," Alexander said. "Getting Drew more involved on defense has been a big help to us."

The Eagles’ defense forced four turnovers and held explosive Red Devils senior Tyree Hunt to 74 yards on 16 carries. Kinnick quarterback Jon Bollinger ran eight times for 57 yards and went 9-for-20 for 107 yards.

Operating out of the shotgun, Kinnick had trouble getting the ball snapped from center to Bollinger, coach Tom Bell said.

The Red Devils’ lone points came on a second-quarter punt block by Taylor Meyers, which he covered in the end zone.
