EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. — Air Force captured its second straight championship in the All-Armed Forces women’s softball tournament, and three Pacific-based players were chosen for the All-Armed Forces team.

Peni-Nicole Nery, an infielder from Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, made it all the way back from a torn knee ligament and joins Jamie Bailey, an Okinawa-based Marine, and Cherie Pizzarelle, a Korea-based soldier, on the All-Armed Forces team.

The All-Armed Forces team will attempt to win its third straight Amateur Softball Association’s Class A women’s national tournament, scheduled for Sept. 17-21 in Auburn, Ala.

Air Force won all but one of its nine games, losing 4-3 to Army in Monday’s opener. Navy, which finished in a third-place tie with the Marine Corps, beat Army 11-5 on Monday, the sailors’ first triumph over the soldiers since 1997.
