Only scoring five points for an entire half isn’t normally a recipe for victory.

But the AFNORTH Lady Lions pulled off that feat Saturday by downing the host Bitburg Lady Barons, 28-20, in a game that saw both teams struggle to put the ball in the basket in the first half.

Neither team scored in the first quarter and AFNORTH, 10-4 on the season, led only 5-2 at halftime. But AFNORTH more than doubled its first-half total in each of the final quarters to earn the victory.

Brenda Broadwater had a game-high 11 points and Mercedes Ash added eight for the Lady Lions, who travel to Mannheim to take part in the DODDS Europe Division II tournament starting Wednesday.

Brianna Lackey scored all of her six points on a pair of 3-point shots and Melissa Menschel also scored six for Bitburg, which will compete in the same tournament.

In other games this weekend:

Kaiserslautern 54, Ramstein 44: Medina Gregory scored 22 points to lead three players in double figures and the Kaiserslautern girls basketball team finished the regular season with a victory Friday over its cross-town rivals from Ramstein.
