SIGONELLA, Sicily - Sigonella scored two fourth-quarter touchdowns Saturday for a 21-18 victory over Rota.
Marco Montera scored the first TD, pulling in a 20-yard pass from Larry Stevenson to cut Sigonella’s gap to 18-14. On Sigonella’s next possession, Jeff Lastrella scored from 7 yards out to put the Jags ahead to stay.
Still, it took a game-saving interception by Khalil Bowen in the waning moments to nail down the victory. Bowen picked off a last-gasp pass on his own 15, and the Jaguars took a knee four times to use up the clock.
Fifteen tackles from Brandon Albert and the punting of Peter Swisshelm also were instrumental in the victory, Sigonella coach Matt McKown said.
“Our kicker was awesome,” McKown said. “He kept them pinned back deep all day.”
Sigonella travels to Alconbury in a showdown game on Saturday; Rota is to entertain Brussels the same day.
