Did the writer of "It’s up to the Afghan people" (letter, Sept. 9) forget why we are here in Afghanistan? Did he forget where Osama bin Laden and other Taliban terrorists planned the attacks on 9/11?

We were sent to Afghanistan to find these terrorists and bring them to justice for what they did to the United States of America. We are still doing that over here, but, in the process, we are helping a country in need as well! We did not come here to solve Afghanistan’s problems, we came to rid the world of terrorists, but again, in the process, we are helping them.

What I have learned from three tours in Afghanistan is that when you help the people, they turn around and help you by giving you information on these terrorists. This takes us right back to the reason we came over, using that information to find the terrorists and protect the United States of America.
