In a recent letter on this page ("A ‘new low’ for Stripes," Aug. 7), a reader characterized the group VoteVets.org as "pacifist" and accusing "soldiers of committing war crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan."

VoteVets.org is a group made up of more than 105,000 veterans and civilian supporters. The group is hardly pacifist. Since its inception, it has advocated a greater military contribution to Operation Enduring Freedom, and endorsed the president’s decision to send more troops to the region in support of it. The group has never accused any soldiers of war crimes, and has only commented on those who were charged and convicted of wrongdoing by military courts.

We are glad Stars and Stripes provides an open forum for all troops to voice their opinions on the articles it runs. However, it is important that what’s printed is also factually correct. Thank you for the opportunity to set the record straight, and best wishes to all our men and women valiantly serving America.
