I have a nagging complaint that must be addressed. I would also wager that I’m not alone in this opinion, either.

It is customary for “The Star Spangled Banner” to be sung at the start of major sporting events. Why do many of the singers of our national anthem act like they are auditioning for “American Idol” while they’re singing it?

It’s my belief that our national anthem should be treated with the reverence and respect that is due. Having to suffer through country/pop/R&B wannabes “jazz up” our national anthem is annoying, embarrassing and downright disrespectful.

To all singers of “The Star Spangled Banner”: Please treat our national anthem with respect. You’re not trying for a record deal. Sing the song with dignity.
