In the March 26 article “General rebuked for letter opposing repeal,” there is a quote attributed to Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He says, “The answer is not advocacy; it is in fact to vote with your feet.”
This may be possible for career/senior officers, but the enlistee most likely affected by changes to “don’t ask, don’t tell” is usually locked into his or her term of enlistment. Changes to this policy after the enlisted person is already on the hook for four years isn’t fair to that individual, is it?
