As a soldier, I support the right of The Associated Press to publish the photo of Lance Cpl. Joshua M. Bernard’s death ("Death of a Marine," article, Sept. 4). However, juxtaposed against its suppression of the news of the kidnapping of Stephen Farrell, a New York Times reporter, the AP’s decision to publish the photograph of the Marine after his family asked it to refrain appears to be less about freedom of the press and more about the use of a brave man’s service and death for profit.
AP’s editorial choices illustrate why American trust in the media has eroded.
