With respect to all those giving their point of view on "don’t ask, don’t tell," I think the big picture is being missed.

For the most part, a gay lifestyle has become acceptable in today’s society. I know several gays, including at least one relative. The people I know are great people and I have absolutely no issue with it.

Gays can choose their lifestyles as they want outside the military. They can live together. They can build homes and share their lives with each other. Great!

I don’t doubt the ability or desire for gays to serve, and serve admirably. What I do have an issue with is how this is going to play out with regard to living quarters. I had a gay roommate once and he made no attempt to hide it. I was extremely uncomfortable in this situation.

How does the military plan to house openly gay with straight servicemembers?

Are billions going to be spent on building new facilities for gays, or will we be forced to share rooms with each other?

These are serious questions that deserve much consideration.
