For weeks now in the Vogelweh, Germany, community, we’ve watched our conveniences stripped away with the movement of the post exchange and other services [to Ramstein Air Base].

I was completely stunned when I went to Kapaun Air Station to have my car serviced to find out that the auto repair shop will not be able to service my car anymore because the mechanics (two to three of them) will be transferred to the auto service center on Ramstein. It is only open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The kicker is that the self-help service at Kapaun will remain open for those who would like to service their car themselves.

Even though I sometimes had to wait a week or two for an appointment at Kapaun, that is nothing compared to what this move will cause, especially for those of us who live and work in the Kaiserslautern community.

Whoever our voice is for some of these decisions, I only question whether he is really at the decision-making table.
