My deepest condolences to the mother in "Mom fighting to be buried with GI son" (article, Jan. 7). Every child should have a parent as committed as she is. Bless her.
I am curious about some of the background of this story. Was the mother aware of the restriction before her son was buried? I am not familiar with the process (that she faced after her son’s death), but are parents/guardians informed of the consequences of their choices? Was she (the mother) a legal guardian? Do wills or other guidance come into play at these times? Did the son make any specific written requests? Can or do prearrangements (letters of desire/wills) come into play in the burial process?
