I read "PTSD, the war within" (article, April 13) and couldn’t help but think, Yes! There is help out there.

Being prior service myself, I understand and can sympathize with those coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan.

I have a dear friend who was here in Iraq in 2003 and was a part of the initial assault on Fallujah. He went home with all sorts of demons and didn’t know how to deal with them. He turned to writing as a way out. Therapy is not for everyone. It was through his writing and the arts that he was able to find his peace.

Together, the two of us formed an organization called VetStage and used that as a vehicle to put his works on stage for the rest of the world to see. It was out of the staging of his work "The Sand Storm: Stories from the Front" that certain psychologists took notice and several organizations have popped up for assistance nationwide.

As I mentioned, therapy is not for everyone. Although, VetStage is no longer producing, there are still people and arts organizations out there to aid in getting those demons out of your head and onto the page, if that is something more your speed.

Help is out there. Please take the time to look for your solution in your city.

Thank you for all you do!
