Administrators at Zama High School in Japan are reminding people of several key dates this summer ahead of the first day of school Aug. 29:
Parents now may begin registering their children for the 2006-07 school year. The school’s summer office hours are 8-11 a.m. and noon to 3 p.m. Parents should call in advance. They also will be required to return before the first day of school to complete the registration process.
The deadline for the Atsugi Enlisted Spouse Association Scholarship has been extended to July 1.
A Host Nation Summer Orientation Course taught by Zama High’s Japanese teacher is being held to help students new to Japan learn more about the country. Two sessions will be offered: July 24-Aug. 4 and Aug. 7-18.
New student orientation is Aug. 25 at 11 a.m. for grades 7-8 and 1 p.m. for grades 9-12.
Substitute teachers are needed for the upcoming school year. The pay is $90 per day. Only U.S. citizens can apply, and a high school diploma is required. Call DSN 263-8668 for more information.
An online program for summer family learning in math and science has been created by the Department of Defense Education Activity. The Summer Family Learning page can be found at www.dodea.edu.
Students planning to play sports next school year must complete a physical exam. Appointments can be made at the Camp Zama clinic.
Starting dates and times for fall sports practice schedules have been released: football at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Aug. 14; volleyball at 9 a.m. Aug. 16; cross country and tennis each at 3 p.m. Aug. 21.
