Taken during Operation Restoring Rights in Tall'Afar, Ninewah province, Iraq. The Qadisiyah neighborhood had been largely deserted prior to this op, and families and their children were a rare presence on the streets until recently."

John Oldroyd on the outskirts of southern Tall 'Afar, Iraq while on a barrier mission in support of the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment and the constitutional referendum. At each location we stopped and passed out soccer balls and gum to the children. This little guy, being held by 1st Sgt. Kenneth Blasko, 360th Transportation Company, just couldn't get enough attention from us.”

He is running fiber optic cable from Camp Navistar to Coalition Crossing on the Iraq-Kuwait border. My thought when I saw this shot was, ‘even with all of the technology we have, things still have to be done the old-fashioned way sometimes.’ ”
