YONGSAN GARRISON — The Yongsan Garrison Area Community Theatre is bringing “Kiss Me Kate” to the stage during five performances late this month and in early May.

John M. Wood III, Yongsan’s music and theater director, said the audience should expect a “play within a play” from the local theater group.

The actors — 16 members of the Yongsan community — will play the roles of a “cast preparing to perform a musical version of ‘Taming of the Shrew,’” Wood said Friday.

“We see their real lives backstage and some of the musical numbers,” from “Shrew,” he said.

Wood, who is directing the play, described it as a musical comedy offering “a good time, lots of laughs, good music, colorful scenery and costumes.”

The cast — ranging from veteran performers to a few first-timers — spent about six weeks rehearsing the 90-minute production, Wood said.

He said the show is family friendly, with no gratuitous profanity. If it were a movie, he would assign it a PG rating, he said.

Performances will be at 7 p.m. on April 24-26 and May 2-3 in the Moyer Theater in the Moyer Community Activity Center, Building 2259.

Tickets are $3 in advance and can be bought in the center’s music room on the second floor. Tickets are $5 at the door.
