YONGSAN GARRISON, South Korea — Base residents on Yongsan Garrison are being asked to prepare for a series of planned, rolling power outages scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
The two-hour outages, to begin around noon and end at about 6 p.m., at one time or another will affect most of South Post, including residential areas.
The outages will occur as Directorate of Public Works crews do maintenance on the various circuits controlling Yongsan’s power grid, said Area II spokesman John Nowell.
The first outage is scheduled from noon to 2 p.m., according to Area II public affairs officials. That work, on Circuit No.2, will affect Seoul American High School, Seoul American Middle School and all residences between the schools and Gate 19.
The first outage also will affect the Black Hawk Village housing area and most of the U.S. Embassy Housing complex, except for the stretch along 25th Division Road.
The areas including Lombardo Field, Collier Field House and Gate 17 also will be without power during the first outage.
The second, scheduled for 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., will affect the Army and Air Force Exchange Services gas station, U.S. Embassy Association building, Transportation Motor Pool and Community Services Building. At the same time, power will be disrupted to the housing areas at Krzryzowski Hills (also known as Itaewon Acres), Koelsch Grove (also called Eagle Grove) and Watkins Ridge.
The final part of the planned outages is scheduled for 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. During that time, Circuit No.4 will be shut down, affecting all remaining South Post facilities except Dragon Hill Lodge.
If residents continue to experience power problems after the work is to have been completed, they should call Public Works at DSN 724-3360, said Area II public affairs officials.
The two circuits that control power on Main Post will not be affected by the power system work, said Nowell.
