YONGSAN GARRISON, South Korea — Ten organizations here raised almost $29,000 for holiday gifts for 211 families whose rank and family size qualified them for some extra help at Christmas, according to Area II officials.

The families of soldiers ranked E-6 and below picked up their toys, checks and gift certificates at the Community Services Building on Tuesday and Wednesday.

“This is outstanding. This is a great program,” said a smiling Sgt. Roy Rodriguez, from Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 8th U.S. Army.

Regina Hargrove, an information referral specialist with ACS Relocation Services, said more than 500 gifts had been donated.

Donations came from a variety of sponsors, including the Area II Chaplains Fund, U.S. Marines’ Toys for Tots drive, Sergeants Major Association, Pacific Rim Finance Corp., Delta Sigma Theta sorority, Morning Calm Chapter Adjutant General’s Corps Regimental Association, Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, American Forces Spouses’ Club, United Service Organizations, Light of the Morning Calm Assembly #370 and individual contributors.
