YONGSAN GARRISON, South Korea — Area II officials are planning a series of activities to mark the celebration of November as the Month of the Military Family.

The events will be replicated in many forms at bases throughout the military, as the Armed Services YMCA marks the program’s ninth year. Formerly, November was noted as the Month of the Military Child.

In Area II, most of the events are sponsored by the Yongsan Garrison Child and Youth Services.

The events begin Wednesday with a Mini Olympics and barbecue party for Yongsan Garrison and Hannam Village families from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Yongsan’s Field 10.

On Friday, Youth Karaoke will be held at 4 p.m. at Youth Services; on Nov. 16, Yongsan’s Child Development Center will hold a spaghetti social at 6:45 p.m.

Overnight Nov. 19, Youth Services will host a high school lock-in at the bowling center, from 11:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. On Nov. 27, a 5k run and sports festival will be held at 9:30 a.m. at Collier Field House.

For more information on any of the events, call Youth Services at DSN: 738-8122.

Organizers of the worldwide Month of the Military Family program are seeking donations, including toys, clothing or holiday food items. Go to the group’s Web site at www.asymca.org for more information.

In a message posted at the Armed Services YMCA Web site, President Bush touts the Month of the Military Family, saying “our nation is also grateful for the military families who serve our country by giving their support” to servicemembers.
