Yokota’s ‘U Days’ returns with cash prizes
Pacific edition, Sunday, December 4, 2007
YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan — More than $22,000 in cash and prizes will be given away to hundreds of base residents during December as Yokota’s 374th Services Division’s “U” program returns for a third year.
A customer appreciation program tied to the holiday season, the program’s goal is to give back to the community, said Paul Floyd, Services marketing director.
“The holidays can be a tough time of the year for a lot of people, especially some of our younger airmen living in the dorms,” he said. “However cash brightens everyone’s day.”
One way the program differs from others is there is no registration or entry fees for participation.
Instead, customers are rewarded often just by using Services’ facilities, Floyd said.
On designated “U Days” throughout the month, customers at Services’ facilities and events can win up to $250 if they happen to be, for example, the 20th customer of the day. Locations are predetermined and listed in Services’ Horizons magazine and “U” program brochure.
Customers also can look for a special “U” on things at various Services locations, bring it to the cashier or front desk receive a cash award on the spot. U’s can be hidden in different areas, including a bowling shoe at Tomodachi Lanes, on a door in a customer’s Kanto Lodge or Tama Lodge room or cabin, or a towel in the gym.
Services also will have prize patrols that show up at random locations to give out cash, and fortune cookies at restaurants with prizes and discounts inside.
The program continues through the month, except on December 24, 25 and 31.
