TOKYO — A cheerleading squad from the home of U.S. Forces Japan recently represented the United States at a Grand Prix of Figure Skating event in Tokyo.

Eleven Yokota High School cheerleaders gathered Saturday at AiiA 2.5 Theater in Tokyo’s Shibuya district to perform a routine that was broadcast to an audience in Hiroshima, the location of this year’s NHK Trophy competition.

The Grand Prix of Figure Skating is a series of international tournaments that awards medals in men’s and women’s singles, pairs and ice dancing. The final will be held next month in Vancouver.

“I think this is a great opportunity for our team and our school,” said Yokota senior Rebecca Holladay. “It shows that we can be more involved with off-base events.”
