A Navy officer was found dead Wednesday morning at Yokosuka Naval Base, Japan, according to a news release.

Lt. Cmdr. Andrew D. LaMorie, 39, of Arkansas, who served as the port operations officer for Commander Fleet Activities Yokosuka, was discovered in his quarters at 11 a.m. after he failed to report to work.

Michelle C. Stewart, a Commander Fleet Activities Yokosuka spokeswoman, offered no other details Thursday on the circumstances surrounding the death but said foul play is not suspected.

“It’s under investigation and we’re not discussing any details right now,” Stewart said.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at in Yokosuka’s Chapel of Hope, she added.

“Our Navy is deeply saddened by this tragedy,” Capt. Gregory Cornish, Yokosuka’s commander, was quoted in the release as saying. “We offer our deepest sympathies to his family.”
