A World War II-era 1,000-pound bomb unearthed on Naval Base Guam earlier in the week was defused Saturday by bomb disposal technicians of Explosive Ordnance Disposal Detachment Marianas, the Navy said.

The bomb was loaded onto a flatbed truck and transported to the base’s ordnance annex for disposal, according to a news release.

Authorities declared an all-clear status at 12:30 p.m., and security forces removed two safety perimeters that had been established, allowing the traffic flow on the base to return to normal.

Workers had discovered the artifact Monday while digging with a backhoe at a construction site.
