MISAWA AIR BASE, Japan — Base commander Brig. Gen. Sam Angelella has declared Monday a down day at Misawa for military units with the 35th Fighter Wing.

The commander typically designates a day off when the 13th and 14th fighter squadrons at Misawa have met their goals for sorties flown in the previous month, said base spokesman Capt. John Redfield.

Units that received a “drinking under the influence,” or DUI, in May must work as usual, but Redfield said no military units received a DUI last month. Security forces, airfield operations, hospital personnel and other mission-essential workers must report to duty Monday. Hospital appointments scheduled for the day will be kept, Redfield noted.

Agencies such as the Military Personnel Flight will be closed.
