A break in a water pipe that serves Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, was repaired Monday, base officials said, though traffic delays were expected until Tuesday morning.

The leak occurred close to midnight Sunday along Marine Corps Drive about a quarter-mile north of the BMW dealership in Dededo, according to a base news release.

Base spokesman 2nd Lt. John Griffin said Monday afternoon that local contractors had repaired the pipe.

“They had to dig underground to get to the water main, to fill the hole up,” he said.

Repairs to the roadway, meanwhile, should be complete by Tuesday morning, he said. Traffic in the area was restricted to one lane, in both directions, and delays were expected.

Griffin said officials are looking into what caused the pipe to burst. The break appears to have caused no impact to the base, he said. More permanent repairs to the area will be made at a later date, he said.
