GIESSEN, Germany — A candlelight vigil will be held Tuesday evening in Giessen for a soldier’s 7-month-old son who died last week from an apparent respiratory condition relating to his premature birth, the Army announced Monday.

The vigil for Elijah Calvillo is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the chapel on Giessen Depot, said Army Chaplain (Capt.) Michael McDonald.

Elijah is the son of Pfc. Arturo Calvillo of Headquarters, Headquarters Company, 16th Engineer Battalion. His immediate family also includes his mother, Melissa, and two brothers, Nicholas, 7, and Tomas, 5.

McDonald said Elijah died Thursday morning from what doctors believe was respiratory failure. Elijah was born four months premature.

Donations may be made on behalf of Elijah to the March of Dimes, an organization dedicated to improving the health of babies by preventing birth defects and infant mortality. The Web site is:
