SEOUL — Military veterans gathered in Seoul on Friday in commemoration of the 56th anniversary of the Korean War’s beginning.

U.S. Forces Korea commander Gen. B.B. Bell spoke to the veterans at the War Memorial of Korea on Friday, in advance of the Sunday anniversary.

Bell thanked the Christian Council of Korea and Korean Veterans Association for hosting the event.

“I would like to especially acknowledge and welcome our United Nations Korean War veterans who have traveled here … from around the world to participate in today’s ceremony,” Bell said, according to a copy of his speech.

“I know it must fill you with pride to return to this land, more than one-half century later, and witness the thriving cities, modern infrastructure and flourishing democracy.”
